IMPORTANT NOTE: What conditions should my physician be aware of before I
start taking Zithromax? They need to know if you have any of these conditions:;
kidney disease; liver disease; pneumonia; stomach problems (especially
colitis); other illnesses of a chronic nature; an unusual or allergic reaction
to azithromycin, other macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin), foods,
dyes, or preservatives; breast-feeding
AZITHROMYCIN (Zithromax®) - ORAL
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Zithromax
USES: Azithromycin also treats sexually transmitted vaginal or urinary
tract infections caused by chlamydia. It will not work for colds, flu, or other
virus infections.
ZITHROMAX: Azithromycin is in a group of drugs called macrolide
antibiotics. Azithromycin fights bacteria in the body. Azithromycin is used to
treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as
respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually
transmitted diseases. Azithromycin could also be prescribed for conditions
other than those mentioned above.

HOW TO USE: Consume Zithromax TABLETS by mouth. Follow the directions on
the prescription label. Consume a full glass of water with each tablet.
Azithromycin tablets can be taken with or without food. Take your doses at
regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Finish
the full course prescribed by your prescriber or health care professional even
if you think your condition is better. Do not stop taking except on your
prescriber's advice.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, stomach upset, trouble sleeping, headache, or cold
symptoms may occur. If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly.
Unlikely but report promptly: dizziness, mental/mood changes, fast heartbeat,
fever. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very
serious side effects occur: fainting, irregular heartbeat. Although drowsiness
is very uncommon at usual doses under normal circumstances, be aware that
drowsiness may occur and may effect the ability to perfom tasks requiring
alertness (e.g., driving). If you notice other effects not listed above,
contact your doctor or pharmacist.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: antacids; astemizole; digoxin; dihydroergotamine;
ergotamine; magnesium salts; terfenadine; triazolam; warfarin Tell your
prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are
taking, including non-prescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or
herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you
are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you
use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with
your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your
medicines..
OVERDOSE: If overdose of Zithromax is suspected, contact your local
poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may
include irregular or unusually slow or fast heartbeat, unexplained nervousness
or excitement, rapid breathing, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures.
NOTES: Keep out of the sun, or wear protective clothing outdoors and use
a sunscreen. Do not use sun lamps or sun tanning beds or booths.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose of Zithromax, take it as soon as you
can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Avoid taking
multiple doses at one time. There should be an interval of at least 12 hours
between doses.
STORAGE:
Store at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away
from sunlight and moisture.
